Joy in our Practice

January 16, 2020

Dear friends…Winter musings…

I used to find myself down during this time of year… The winter with its long dark days and long nights left me restless and longing for long, warm summer days.. Through the years I have learned to accept the winter and be grateful for the good that it can bring…  In the stillness of the winter, we have an opportunity for regeneration, renewal, and self-reflection.

The long dark days provide us with an opportunity to reflect on our relationships with self, family, community and the natural environment that sustains us all. It is important to ask ourselves how we are doing in relationship to ourselves, others and the world around us. Wintertime is a time we can consider what steps can we take to deepen our relationships with each other, our earth, and all living beings.

Have a joyful Thursday everyone!

Joy in our Practice

January 14, 2020

Hello everyone,
I am back at school after Spring break. I teach a class called Care at the End of Life.  I decided to infuse the course with art through museum visits and artistic assignments and exposure to various forms of art.

Though I have never been especially creative personally I have found that the addition of art to my coursework has provided me with a sense of joy that I did not previously have while teaching the course. I encourage you all to bring a little joy into your life with Art. I am including a piece by mary Rockwood-nurse artist… It’s inspirational.

Joy in our Practice

January 10, 2019

Hello everyone!

In keeping with the theme of mindfulness and Joy, I bring you another quote from Thich Nhat Hanh, Vietnamese Buddhist Monk, and peace activist.

Have a wonderful joyous weekend.

The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it.
