I hope this finds you all safe and well on this last day of April, and what a month it has been for our profession, our country and the world.  I chose this quote because to me it reflects how nurses often think and feel about the work they do, yet not recognizing the impact it has.  When a nurse get thanked or praised for the care they provided, more often than not the nurse thinks or responds with something along the lines of “I was just doing my job”.   So I share this with you today as a reminder that when you are  ‘just doing your job’’, meeting the needs of others in a caring compassionate way, taking the time to hold a hand, sharing a smile, encouraging the weary, comforting the grieving, being a nurse; you are truly changing the world.

As we all live and work in the new reality COVID 19 has brought, I am sending you all light, love and a reminder to look for the JOY inside of you.  That can be a really hard thing to find right now in the face of separation, loneliness, hard work and grief but it is still there.  Pause and look for those moments of quiet joy in the world around you.

With everyone in masks, it has reminded me how expressive people’s eyes really are.  I do not need to see the upward turn of the mouth to know people are still smiling- I can see it in their eyes and hear it in their voice.  

With gratitude for all you do, I look forward to the days when we can be together again,
