Joy in our Practice

August 9, 2022

Hi Dear Colleagues,

We know that a key to cultivating joy is being able to be aware and open in the present moment.  In other words- being mindful. Mindfulness is a quality that we can build by taking time to practice each day.

Attached is a 3-minute music and nature soundtrack that I have enjoyed recently as a brief meditation break during the day.   Give yourself the gift of a break. Can you stop for 3.5 minutes right now maybe?!  Or fit it in whenever you can!  My key practice points:

  • I usually start with 3 deep, slow breaths and then focus on visualizing myself in a peaceful and joyful place.
  • You can also repeat an affirmation or prayer to yourself to help you focus.  Something like “I am at peace and calm.” or “I am whole and loved.”
  • When you notice your mind wander, which it will inevitably do, be gentle with yourself and bring your focus back to your breathing and the imagery.  That act of coming back is the building of mindfulness.

May your practice bring you joy today!
