Black Joy
“When we have joy, we can dig deep”
A year ago, Thaddeus Miles launched the BlackJoy Project in Boston. This is a formal celebration and conversation of the many moments of joy within the black community that he felt needed greater visibility. Thaddeus Miles identifies joy as the “seeds of resilience” each person is born with. It is not the absence of pain and is not the same as happiness. BlackJoy is his contribution to the collective narrative of the power and influence of black traditions in the world. For Thaddeus Miles, he documents his joy through photography and he has encouraged others to document their joy through other forms of expression – poetry, dance to name just two.
Learning about this incredibly important project brings me joy. His blog is: https://blackjoy.blog/
