Joy in our Practice

March 17, 2020

I hope this email finds you all well. As the COVID 19 pandemic unfolds and social distancing becomes the norm – we are all asked once again to be fully present to the import of our work – public health and safety. In addition to my professional obligations, I have been giving guidance to friend’s planning travels and their varied states of health. I am sure the same is true of all of you!

I was recently given a beautiful book written by Charlie Mackesy called, The Boy, the mole, the fox and the Horse. On one page the mole says to the boy, “One of our greatest freedoms is how we react to things”.

So as is the case throughout history, nurses react with science, calm and compassion to this latest public health challenge. There is no joy in fear or suffering, but I am grateful we have a positive role to play. I am grateful for my meditation practices that keep me in a grounded state!

Be Well,

Carolyn
